The story unfolds in Truvy's salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where a diverse group of women gather for hairdressing and camaraderie. Led by the witty Truvy and her uncertain assistant Annelle, the salon hosts colorful characters, including a cantankerous rich woman, a sweet-toothed millionaire, and the town's social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is preparing to marry a local. Filled with humorous banter and poignant moments, the play takes a tragic turn when Shelby, a diabetic, risks pregnancy and loses her life.
